Get 'Em Wet to Get "Em In

I'm not looking for any names to drag through the mud. I'm just wandering if the belief that one is baptized into the church a common belief among our missionary baptists brethren? If so, what is their biblical basis for such an idea?

I don't believe it anymore. I believed it before I began attending seminary and learned to study the Bible properly. I don't know if I'd been taught it my whole life, or if it was a conclusion I came to b/c it was not more clearly taught. Anyway, I came to that belief you mention around age 12 and believed it until about age 17. I think maybe the belief came from the idea that "Once we baptize you, you will be a member of the church." Thus, the untrained, unstudied believer member only has room to suppose they are being "baptized" into the church.

Didn't it happen that way in the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou?"

He went right down into the water, got saved, and joined the congregation??

At what point, friends, does a new believer become a member?
