What Do You Think?

What can we do to improve the Louisiana Missionary Baptist News? (Besides more pictures of me) We are always looking to better our product. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Just a couple of thoughts.

One thing some church members lack, and myself included, is the definition of certain words. Maybe "grace" and "mercy" are understood, but the word forgive (meaning pardon), love (carrying with it the idea of self sacrifice for the benefit of another), omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, etc. might need defining for the younger church members who receive the paper. After all, we use these words often, but because we are so familiar with them, we might forget that others don't know the meaning to these words. So I suggest a small "definition of the day" with Webster 1828 dictionary definition of words. This will help our churches while they read the S.S. literature, hear sermons, or even read sections in the newspaper itself.

You could have a small, one-line, tasteful joke or two each month.

You could also have a "favorite Hymn" section if you are running low on material for the month. Circle between churches, and find members who have a favorite hymn that means a lot to them. It would be nice to read the touching stories and meanings behind why our church members love certain hymns, and what they mean to them.

This is all my pea-brain could come up with.

It's been quite some time since I received the Louisiana Missionary Baptist News. I subscribed to all the ABA papers I knew about back in the early 80s. At some point I let the subscriptions run out (or most just quit sending them after awhile after I let the subscriptions run out). I didn't have time to read all of them anyway.

My memory of the last issues of the LMBN was that it was mostly news and reports, and not much doctrine and practice -- except for Brother Crain's articles. Since I wasn't closely connected the the LMBA or LMBIS, it wasn't that important that I get that news.

So from my standpoint, I like more articles on doctrine and practice. I realize, though, that the news is important to many of the readers. Of course, since I haven't seen it lately, you may have already made some changes along those lines.

One paper I receive has quite a few short anecdotal articles with a kind of "moral of the story" ending. That evidently is popular with a lot of people (or else they just need them for filler). Not particularly my cup of tea.

I like James' "definition of the day (month)" and "favorite hymn" ideas.

I also like Brother James ideal. Might try it for a few months and ask for a response from readers.
